1931年出生于韩国庆尚北道涟川,1954年毕业于弘益大学美术系绘画专业。1961年曾于巴黎驻留,期间确立并发展了其黑白简洁线画结合韩纸的质感画风至今。朴不仅是韩国当代艺术的先驱,也是韩国单色画(Dansaekhwa)的代表艺术家之一。
朴最著名的是其 "écriture "系列,该系列始于20世纪60年代末,起源于道家、佛教哲学和韩国传统书法,与时间、空间、物质等概念密切相关。 早期的作品是在尚未干透的单色颜料表面进行铅笔线描,而后期的作品则是用韩纸(韩国传统纸张)层层叠叠,用手指和工具在表面做垂直线条,形成几何形的起伏。 这些作品中形式和色彩的局限性让人联想到极简主义艺术,但可以说,这些通过 "绘画 "捕捉重复动作的作品,是试图通过不同于西方观念艺术的路径,达到某种精神上的追求。
